Dr Steph Shields is a specialist Paediatric Dentist who completed her undergraduate dental training in Queensland at Griffith University in 2012. She then worked for nearly a decade in private practice, including 6 years in Darwin, before moving to Melbourne to complete her specialist training in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Melbourne.

Steph loves seeing children of all ages and particularly enjoys treating children who have dental anxieties, special needs or medically complex backgrounds. Her special interest is molar incisor hypomineralisation (or “chalky teeth”) and she is currently completing a PhD in the area at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and the University of Melbourne.

Steph has presented her research at the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry, International Association of Dental Research and the Australasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry. She served as council member for the Australian Dental Association Northern Territory branch from 2016-2020 and served as Honorary Secretary from 2017-2019.

Steph now loves calling Melbourne home and in her spare time she enjoys yoga, hiking and cooking. She has travelled on outreach dental trips to Timor Leste in 2018 and 2019 and would love to plan a return trip.
